Rhinos to Join #MissingType Campaign
This week, the Rhinos will be taking part in an international awareness campaign that is part of a global movement to encourage more people to become regular blood donors. The world-wide campaign, organized by the Red Cross, has been initiated in El Paso by the United Blood Services (UBS).
On June 13, the Rhinos will take to social media to contribute to the #MissingType campaign. To promote blood donation, the Team will remove the letters A, O and B from social media profile names and temporarily change profile photos to include red logos.
This past season, the Rhinos partnered with UBS to increase awareness of the importance of donating blood. In February, the team hosted a United Blood Services series in which players wore UBS jerseys decorated with the words, “Because you give, someone will live.” These game-worn jerseys were then auctioned off to raise money for the organization. Preceding the series, players visited a local blood bank and gave out free tickets to donors while Rhino staff members donated blood.
The Rhinos join organizations like Dunkin’ Donuts, Microsoft, Samsung, Qantas, Church of England, Herbalife, Walgreens, Harley-Davidson, Fandango, Streets of New York, Sports Clips, the Boston Red Sox, the Denver Broncos, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Boston Celtics who have participated in the #MissingType campaign in the past.
