On Friday, Will Daigneault of Long Beach scored first just before the six minute mark of the first period. Ty Erramouspe evened the game with only 1:19 left in the period. Long Beach scored twice in the second twenty minutes of play to earn a 4-1 lead. Jonas Burman and Ty Erramouspe once again evened the game after scoring only 4 minutes apart. Long Beach’s Erik Sillerstrom gave the Bombers the lead again until Donald Alchin tied the game for a third time. After two scoreless overtimes, the game preceded to a shootout where Martin Dubsky was the only Rhino to score. Bombers Tuan Thanh Hoang and Erik Sillerstrom both slipped pucks past Rhino netminder Nils Velm, giving the Bombers a 5-4 game one win.
Only 38 seconds into game two on Saturday, Long Beach forward Erik Sillerstrom snuck one past Rhino goalie Kayden Pickles to give the Bombers the lead. The Bombers scored again in the first period to create a two-goal deficit for the Rhinos at the end of the period. Max Kamper put the Rhinos back in the game when he scored a power play goal just before the mid-point mark of the second period. The Bombers, however, went on to score three unanswered power play goals to win game two by a final score of 5-1.
The Bombers completed the sweep on Sunday, again holding the Rhinos to a single point. After a scoreless first period, Dillon Manchester, with the help of Filip Schultz and Jonas Burman, put the Rhinos on the board first just before the 14-minute mark. Much like Saturday’s game, the Bombers posted four consecutive goals in the second and third periods. Long Beach forwards Artem Korolev and Erik Sillerstrom, contributed to the win, both scoring pairs of goals to end game three with a final score of 4-1.
After this series, the Rhinos are now 6-2-1 on the season. They return to home ice this weekend to take on the Utah Outliers. For the first two games, the team will wear Dia de los Muertos themed jerseys which will be auctioned off after Saturday’s game. The puck will drop at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 4:30 pm on Sunday at the El Paso County Coliseum Events Center (4100 E. Paisano).
