Unlike Tuesday’s game, the Rhinos weren’t able to make a comeback in their second game of the Showcase against the Ogden Mustangs. They did, however, get off to a great start offensively. Less than three minutes into the first period, Jonas Burman earned the Rhinos' first goal. Shortly thereafter, Sam Sykes, assisted by defenseman Dominic Erdt, increased the Rhinos lead to two after a power play goal at 13:22.
At 9:33, interference was called on Rhino forward Donald Alchin and Ogden’s Rhett Rampinelli was granted a penalty shot. Rampinelli's top shelf penalty shot swung the momentum in Ogden's favor and minutes later, Ammon Anderson scored a power play goal to even the game at two before the close of the first period.
The second period started with the Rhinos taking back their lead thanks to a goal by Adam Stalzer but just over two minutes later, Mustang Ammon Anderson's second goal evened the game at three.
At 9:07, Alchin was called for his third penalty of the game, holding, that again resulted in a penalty shot for the Mustangs. This time, Harry Gulliver found the back of the net to give Ogden the 4-3 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation. With only 1.8 seconds, Ogden forward Lukas Vacin sealed the deal with a shorthanded empty netter to give the Mustangs the 5-3 win.
The Rhinos will look to close out their Showcase appearance with a win when they play the Bellingham Blazers at 9:15 am on Thursday.
