Bison 5, Rhinos 2

Sep 19, 2009

In front of a sold out crowd the Boulder Bison treated their fans to a 5 to 2 win over the El Paso Rhinos.

Jeremy Rolfe opened up the scoring for the Bison with a pass out front which went off a Rhino defenseman\’s skate and into the net.  Thirty seconds later Austin Balko tied the game at one with a nice shot beating the Bison goaltender glove side.

In the second period a shot from Bison defenseman Nick Sutton was deflected by forward Derek Scanlon hit the glass behind the goal, bounced back and deflected off Duff\’s back and into the net.  The Rhinos answered again with a shot from Rhino defenseman Andrew Ketterer which found the twine 5 hole. Before the end of the second period, the Bison scored a nice power play goal to go into the intermission up 3 to 2.

The Rhinos couldn\’t get anything going and the Bison took advantage of turn overs and defensive breakdowns and skated to a 5 to 2 win in front of a standing room only crowd.

“We didnt play well at all, we were rusty and weren\’t doing the little things right that you need to do to win games like this.  They played very well and out worked us.  Anytime you get beat to 90% percent of loose pucks you don\’t give youself a chance to win.”

“The Bison did a very good job, their players played very well and we need to be better in all ends of the rink.”
