January 31, 2017 – Junior Hockey News

EL PASO RHINOS (29-6-2, 60 pts)

The El Paso Rhinos hosted Western Division’s Long Beach Bombers over the weekend and took the series win over the team with the most points in the WSHL.

The Bombers also have scored the most goals in the league (261 in 38 games for a 6.87 avg.) but were held to just five goals in three games by El Paso, and Tymen Edelkoort, who started all three games.

Artur Laukatis scored two goals in a 3-1 El Paso victory Friday, and Edelkoort made 26 saves in Saturday’s loss. Game Two also saw 66 PIM between the two teams.

Laukatis scored another two goals and an assist in the series clinching 7-1 victory on Sunday.

With the Mid-West Division lead on the line, El Paso will be playing in their most important series of the year when they face off with Oklahoma City in a home-and-home six-game match up with the Blazers

OKC holds a two-point lead on El Paso heading into the back-to-back series, but don’t have anyone in the league’s top-30 in scoring. Whereas, the Rhinos’ Chaseton Sare (79 pts) and Alex Johanson (71) are both in the top-10.
