(EL PASO, TX) — Rhinos\’ co-captain Dakota Beaulieu scored two power play goals and the El Paso Rhinos improved to 8-0-0 with a thorough 6-1 win over the San Diego Gulls Saturday night in front of a sell out crowd.

Beaulieu, the New Orleans native who came to El Paso after spending last season with the New Mexico Renegades, opened the Rhinos\’ scoring at 6:54, tipping a Chris Wilhite pass from the point past Gulls goalie Filip Lukac.

El Paso followed by two lightning strikes from David Nelson and Matthew Plesa just 18 seconds apart. Nelson scored at 12:26 while Plesa pounced on a rebound from brother Nick Plesa\’s shot to make it 3-0 at 12:44.

Peter Plesa scored the only goal of the second period just 1:39 into the frame.

San Diego captain Eric Baldwin took a feed from Kalvis Ozols and beat Rhinos\’ goaltender Adam Vay at 8:43 of the third period to avert a shutout with a power play goal for the visitors; but Beaulieu notched his second on the man advantage, putting in a short rebound after Lukac\’s kick save of Trey Hughes\’ shot at 14:12.

Andrew Bradford finished the scoring at 17:34 of the third.

The Gulls drop to 1-8-1 with the loss with one more game to go in the series, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. MDT. For tickets and information, contact the Rhinos\’ front office at 915.479.PUCK (7825) or go to www.elpasorhinos.com.
