Rhinos 7, NM 2

Nov 20, 2010

With teams that dominated the WSHL’s Mid-West Division, the Rhinos have a number of high-total goal-scoring records.

Though this season’s El Paso team is still finding its way, Tyler Beasley found his way to set a brand new offensive record. The Indianapolis native scored the first four goals of the game for the Rhinos’ first-ever natural Texas hat trick, as El Paso downed the New Mexico Renegades, 7-2, at the Events Center Friday night.

New to the team this season, Beasley has quickly made a mark, now having equaled the league’s top mark for goals scored.

The 5-10 forward had a natural hat trick (three straight goals) before the end of the first period, and scored his third and fourth goals short-handed.

The Renegades’ Chris Thirion and Cody Miller notched the next two goals as New Mexico outscored their hosts in the second period, 2-1.

But El Paso countered with a three-goal third period, as Trevor Anderson, Tyler Benson and Todd Thomas put the game out of reach.

The Rhinos improve to 10-4-2, leap-frogging the Texas Brahmas for second place in the Mid-West Division with 22 points to the Brahmas’ 21. El Paso can reclaim first place from idle Tulsa (22 points) with a win Saturday night, the second of a three-game series with New Mexico. Saturday’s game is at 7:30 p.m. MST at the Events Center, followed by the final game of the three-game series Sunday at 5:30 p.m. MST.
