Friday: Corpus Christi Ice Rays 2 @ El Paso Rhinos 1 – Corpus Christi pays us a visit this past week as we prepare for a 2-game series! Defense on both sides held firm tonight, leaving us with no scores in both the first and second period. Even without scoring the second period was still lively with several roughing penalties dished out to both sides. Rhinos would be first on the board in the third period with a goal at 4:41 as Eddie Shepler breaks down Ice Rays’ defense. Corpus Christi would snap back a few minutes later as Mathieu Bourgault sinks a goal in the net at 5:45 in the third period, sending us into overtime with a 1-1 tie. Unfortunately for the Rhinos, Ice Rays manage to take the win with a goal in just over a minute. Final score: Corpus Christi 2 to Rhinos 1.
Saturday: Corpus Christi Ice Rays 1 @ El Paso Rhinos 5 – Game #2 is afoot as the IceRays & Rhinos take to the ice once more! Rays are first to score tonight as Ryan Hintz gives them a 1-0 lead in the first period. After intermission Rhinos would kick it in to high gear, starting off with Alexandre Pellerin scoring just 30 seconds into the period. Jakub Jerman rounds out the period with a second goal at just under 15 minutes for a 2-1 Rhino lead headed into the third. El Paso would keep this momentum going in the third period as Tory Lund gives us two back-to-back goals within the first fivce minutes of the period. Just when you thought it was all over Mason LeBel scores one final goal for the Rhinos with four seconds left on the clock for a 5-1 victory.
