Rhinos split series with Warriors

Oct 15, 2023

Friday: El Paso Rhinos 2 @ Oklahoma Warriors 1 – Rhinos are on the road this week as they travel to Oklahoma City to face off against the Warriors.

Taking to the ice first period both teams struggled to break past the opposing defense which ultimately led to a 0-0 tie before heading to first intermission. Moving on to the second period the Warriors break through Rhino defense as Peter Rosa sinks a goal right into the net. With time running out in the second period the Warriors maintained a 1-0 lead as we head into the third. Frank Tafelski ties the game for the Rhinos at the 10:38 mark in this period and with no further scoring we are forced into overtime! With a powerplay carrying over from the end of regulation time Rhinos have a few seconds to push with advantage which is replaced by normal 3v3 hockey after a bit of play. Finally Paavo Hiltunen puts the final nail in the coffin for this game by scoring the game winning goal in overtime. Rhinos come out on top of the Warriors 2-1 in game #1

Saturday: El Paso Rhinos 1 @ Oklahoma Warriors 4 – Rhinos & Warriors are back at it on the ice tonight as they duke it out for the second game of the series! Oklahoma came to the rink eager to get revenge from last night’s overtime defeat at the hands of the Rhinos. Starting at the 11:25 mark the Warriors would score 3 goals courtesy of Drew Sutton, who scored twice, and a third goal from William Ahlrik. Warriors would move into the second period with a 3-0 lead. Bradley Walker puts the Rhinos on the board this period at just over halfway through the second and cut the Warriors’ lead to 3-1. Unfortunately for the Rhinos this would be the last goal the Rhinos would see tonight as Drew Sutton earns himself a hattrick for the Warriors with less than a minute to go in the game to round out the score at 4-1 over the Rhinos.
