Wrap Up

Oct 18, 2009

The El Paso Rhinos wrapped up another weekend sweep Sunday afternoon, downing the New Mexico Renegades, 8-1, to improve to 11-1-0.

El Paso\’s 22 points leads the Mid-West Division by eight points over the Tulsa Rampage and the Boulder Bison, each with 14 points after Boulder swept Tulsa in Colorado this weekend.

With two consecutive shutouts, Rhinos goalie Matt Dizgun was working on his third before the Renegades\’ Derek Pellett scored 3:50 into the second frame. Nonetheless, the 17-year-old from Montreal went over eight periods without allowing a goal.

Six different Rhinos scored in Sunday\’s win — a solid cross-section of returning players and new blood.

Returning winger David Fegler and new forward Donald Geary each scored twice, Fegler\’s last and Geary\’s first coming just 34 seconds apart in the third period.

Mike Vallier, Austin Balko, John Redmond and Anthony Knuth also tallied for the visitors, who will return home in time for classes tomorrow.

The Rhinos open up their home schedule next weekend at the Sierra Providence Events Center against the only team to have beaten them thus far in Mid-West Division play, the Bison. El Paso garnered its third consecutive series sweep since dropping its very first game of the season in Boulder, CO.
